Chapter 4

“HOW did things go last night with Tall, Dark, and Dreamy?” Correen teased between appointments. They hadn’t had any morning appointments, so Brent had been able to prepare everything for the photo shoot with Tristan. He’d also had Correen come in late. A late-night trip to Home Depot had garnered something he could use for spacers, and he’d been able to put together the belt apparatus. It seemed to work on him. It wasn’t the sturdiest prop he’d ever made, but it should last through the shoot.

“Fine,” Brent hedged.

“Have you heard from him?” Correen asked as she worked at the computer. “I have most of the shoots from yesterday ready for you to review.” Correen paused, and Brent knew she was waiting for an answer to her earlier question.

“He texted this morning that he’ll be here as planned,” Brent answered, getting his equipment ready for the next appointment, which should arrive at any minute. The sun was shining, even if it was a bit cool, but he should be able to use the garden.

“Then I get a short day?” Correen asked with excitement. “Cool.”

“Actually,” Brent said as he looked up from his camera, “I have a list of things I need you to run and pick up on the desk, and I’m going to need your help with the shoot. It’s going to be a bit complicated, and I think an extra set of hands will come in handy.”

Correen picked up the list and read through it. “Is this meant to be funny? Eighteen cans of shaving cream?”

“Yes, and don’t get the gel kind. I need the kind that comes out foamy and is perfectly white. The old-fashioned kind, like your dad used.”

“Two cans of whipped cream,” Correen read from the list. “How are you planning to use this? Because I’m not doing the running so you and Mr. Hot Pants can get busy.”

“It’s for the shoot, trust me. Just get it,” he told Correen.

“Do you want me to get cherries and chocolate sauce too?” Correen was obviously warming to her theme.

“No. Just get what’s on the list,” he said, chuckling, saved from more of her teasing by the arrival of Randy and his mother, his next clients. Correen took care of the business end, and then Brent took over, getting them settled and Randy ready for his pictures. They’d brought multiple outfits, and while Randy changed into his first one, Correen whispered that she’d be back in a little while. Once Randy was set, they moved outside and took some pictures in the garden before moving to the studio.

Correen returned at some point, but Brent was so busy with back-to-back appointments, he barely noticed until he was finished with the last studio client of the day.

“Did you get everything?” Brent asked, pawing through the bags. “Perfect,” he said as he pulled out several cans of shaving cream. “And unscented. You’re a dear.” His phone chimed—Tristan messaging that he was on his way. To have some extra help, he’d
